The Client in Pain: How to Train with Chronic Pain

With Josh Henkin & Jessica Bento

Chronic low back pain has nearly tripled in prevalence over the past 14 years. Shoulder pain remains persistent for 50% of individuals even after 12 months, and knee pain affects approximately 25% of the population. Current research reveals that the rapid increase in chronic pain is largely independent of age or body weight. Clearly, there’s a critical gap in how we address and manage chronic pain symptoms.

Living with chronic pain significantly impacts mental health, increasing rates of anxiety and depression. It’s one of the leading causes of disability worldwide and can even hinder fat loss goals. A recent study found that individuals with chronic pain lose 33% less body fat, partly because pain makes it more challenging to sustain the necessary lifestyle and behavioral changes.

That’s why physical therapist Jessica Bento and strength coach Josh Henkin are excited to collaborate with Perform Better for an essential webinar. Together, they’ll explore why traditional corrective exercise often falls short, how advancements in pain science reshape our approach to training, and practical strategies for programming effectively for individuals dealing with chronic pain.
